Insights from a leading lady: Emma Matthews on the Rigoletto rehearsals III

We asked Emma Matthews to share her thoughts from the rehearsal room ahead of Rigoletto‘s opening on the 26th June.

Another terrific day! We started nice and early at the Sydney Opera House at 8.00am for a publicity call before our final Piano Dress.

Here’s a lovely shot with Andrew Keshan, Head of Wigs and Makeup, getting me gorgeous:

It was great to get the quick costume changes with my dresser Kathy and Andrew Keshan sorted in the run today.

My first change is in a tiny stairwell inside the revolving set. Poor Kathy is in there for 40 minutes, as once she gets in, she can’t leave!

The singers all took it easy today, as it’s a double Stage Orchestral tomorrow.

Here’s me on stage with our amazing stage manager Ben Lynch:

Mezzo-soprano Dominica Matthews did her schizophrenic best today, as both Giovanna and Maddalena… So plain as Giovanna and then so sexy!

Here she is playing up backstage… (Guess who she’s playing in that costume?)

I was given some lovely flowers by the Opera Company today, here’s a picture with Gianluca – pretending they’re from him! What a great guy! (Unlike the Duke he plays!)

Home to re-charge now.
